The production area of Verona PGI or Provincia di Verona PGI or Veronese PGI is within the territory of various municipalities in the Province of Verona, in the Veneto region.
Description of product typologies
Verona PGI or Provincia di Verona PGI or Veronese PGI Bianco, alone or with specification of grape variety, ranges from straw-yellow with greenish reflections to deep yellow, depending on the grape variety; the nose offers an intense fragrance of flowers and white fleshy fruit; it is ample on the palate, with good structure and sapidity, offering a fresh and lively finish. It can also be produced as semi-sparkling wine. Verona PGI or Provincia di Verona PGI or Veronese PGI Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, is ruby red, varying in intensity; the nose reveals fruity tones, at times of cherry and rose; it is fresh, smooth and pleasantly tannic on the palate, ranging from dry to semi-sweet, and at times with lively bitter hints. It can also be produced as semi-sparkling wine and Novello. Verona PGI or Provincia di Verona PGI or Veronese PGI Rosato, alone or with specification of grape variety, is pink; the nose displays intense floral fragrances; it is fresh on the palate, with lively fruity notes. It can also be produced as semi-sparkling wine.
Grape variety specifications
The Verona PGI or Provincia di Verona PGI or Veronese PGI with specification of one of the grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, is reserved for wines obtained from grapes originating from vineyards on the producer’s land made up of at least 85% of the corresponding varieties. A maximum of 15% of grapes originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Province of Verona can be used, pure or combined, to produce the above-mentioned musts and wines. For the production of Cabernet wine, it is also possible to add grapes from the Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Carmenère grape varieties, individually or combined. Verona PGI or Provincia di Verona PGI or Veronese PGI wines with specification of one or two grape varieties can also be produced as semi-sparkling wine and Novello, the latter only for wine obtained from red grape varieties. Verona PGI or Provincia di Verona PGI or Veronese PGI wines with specification of grape variety, must display the organoleptic properties of the specified grape variety, as well as the specific characteristics indicated for wines of the same colour.
