Production Area
The production area of Velletri PDO is within the entire territory of the municipalities of Velletri and Lariano in the Province of Rome, and parts of the Municipality of Cisterna di Latina in the Province of Latina, in the Lazio region.
Description of product typologies
Velletri PDO Bianco has an intense straw-yellow colour; the nose reveals fresh minerality with strong floral fragrances of broom and fruity aromas of white plum; it is significantly sapid on the palate, with a lively and dynamic flavour and sage returns. It can be produced as Semi-Sweet and Sweet wine and may display Riserva on the label.Velletri PDO Rosso has a ruby-red colour, varying in intensity and tending towards garnet with ageing; the nose is embellished with traces of prune, violet, eucalyptus and liquorice; the sensations of the nose return on the palate with a warm structure and slightly tannic flavour. It can be produced as Semi-Sweet wine and may display Riserva on the label if the wine has been aged for a minimum period of two years, commencing November 1st of the year in which the grapes were produced. Velletri PDO Spumante has an intense straw colour, and persistent, dense and constant foam; the nose offers a clean and elegant floral bouquet, with notes of ripe fruit, yeast and beer; it is dry and persistent on the palate, with good body. Velletri PDO Spumante wine must be obtained exclusively through natural secondary fermentation in bottles and must remain on the lees for at least 6 months; the entire procedure must not last less than 12 months.The gasification processes must be carried out within the territory of the Lazio region.
