Production Area
The production area of Valli di Porto Pino PGI is within the entire territory of the municipalities of Giba, Masainas, Narcao, Nuxis, Perdaxius, Piscinas, Santadi, S. Anna Arresi, Tratalias, Villaperuccio and Teulada in the Province of Sud Sardegna, in the Sardinia region.
Description of product typologies
Valli di Porto Pino PGI Bianco, alone or with specification of variety, is medium straw-yellow; the nose offers fragrances of ripe fruit, exotic fruit and dried fruit; it is smooth and warm on the palate, embracing in the dry to sweet wines. It can also be produced as semi-sparkling wine. Valli di Porto Pino PGI Rosso, alone or with specification of variety, is medium ruby red with crimson reflections; the nose offers beautifully-expressed fruity, floral, balsamic and brushwood fragrances; it is warm and embracing on the palate, mellow and harmonious in the dry to sweet wines. It can also be produced as semi-sparkling wine. Valli di Porto Pino PGI Rosato, alone or with specification of variety, is various shades of pink; the nose offers moderately floral and fruity fragrances of caramel and blueberry, balsamic and intense; it is fresh, smooth and lively on the palate. It can also be produced as semi-sparkling wine. Valli di Porto Pino PGI Novello, alone or with specification of grape variety, is bright red with purplish reflections; the nose offers evident fragrances of marasca cherry and red fruit; it is medium-bodied, rounded and smooth on the palate, ranging from medium-sweet to dry.
Grape variety specifications
The Valli di Porto Pino PGI with the specification of one of the grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Sardinia region, excluding the Cannonau, Carignano, Girò, Malvasia, Monica, Moscato, Nasco, Nuragus, Semidano, Vermentino and Vernaccia grape varieties, is reserved for wines obtained from grapes originating from vineyards on the producer’s land made up of at least 85% of the corresponding varieties. A maximum of 15% of similarly-coloured unaromatic grapes originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area can be used, pure or combined, to produce the above-mentioned musts and wines. Valli di Porto Pino PGI wines with specification of one of the grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, can also be produced as semi-sparkling wine and Novello, the latter only for wines obtained from red grape varieties. Valli di Porto Pino PGI wines with specification of grape variety must display the organoleptic properties of the specified grape variety, as well as the specific characteristics indicated for wines of the same colour.
