The Val Tidone PGI is reserved for the following types of wine: White and Red. The Indication also incorporates numerous grape variety specifications.
Production Area
The production area of Val Tidone PGI is within the entire territory of the municipalities of Borgonovo Val Tidone, Caminata, Castel San Giovanni, Nibbiano, Pianello Val Tidone and Ziano Piacentino, and parts of Agazzano, Gazzola, Piozzano and Travo, in the Province of Piacenza, in the Emilia-Romagna region.
Description of product typologies
Val Tidone PGI Bianco is straw-yellow; the nose offers fragrances of pear, acacia, citron and aromatic herbs; it is structured on the palate, with a note of freshness, embracing in the dry, medium-sweet and semi-sweet wines. It can also be produced as semi-sparkling wine. Val Tidone PGI Rosso is red, varying in intensity; the nose reveals sensations of blackberry, blueberry, cassis, fern and aromatic herbs; it is intense, fruity and balanced on the palate, and can be dry, medium-sweet and semi-sweet. It can also be produced as semi-sparkling wine.
Grape variety specifications
The Val Tidone PGI with the specification of one of the grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, is reserved for wines obtained from grapes originating from vineyards on the producer’s land made up of at least 85% of the corresponding varieties. A maximum of 15% of similarly-coloured unaromatic grapes originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Emilia-Romagna region can be used, pure or combined, to produce the above-mentioned musts and wines. Val Tidone PGI wines with specification of grape varieties can also be produced as semi-sparkling wine, for which the use of artificial gasification is not permitted. Val Tidone PGI wines with specification of grape variety must display the organoleptic properties of the specified grape variety, as well as the specific characteristics indicated for wines of the same colour.
