The production area of Val di Cornia Rosso PDO or Rosso della Val di Cornia PDO is within the entire territory of the municipalities of Suvereto and Sassetta, and parts of Piombino, San Vincenzo and Campiglia Marittima in the Province of Livorno; the entire territory of the municipality of Monteverdi Marittimo in the Province of Pisa, in the Tuscany region.
Description of product typologies
Val di Cornia Rosso PDO or Rosso della Val di Cornia PDO ranges from bright ruby red to garnet red; the nose is pleasant, intense, fine and complex, offering strong floral fragrances; it is full, dry and pleasantly velvety on the palate, with good body and at times woody hints. It can display Riserva on the label if the wine has been matured in wooden recipients for a mandatory period of at least 18 months, followed by six months in the bottle. Val di Cornia Rosso PDO or Rosso della Val di Cornia PDO wines cannot be released for consumption before May 1st of the second year following that in which the grapes were produced; Val di Cornia Rosso PDO or Rosso della Val di Cornia PDO Riserva wines can be released for consumption from January 1st of the third year following that in which the grapes were produced.
