The Umbria PGI is reserved for the following types of wine: White, Red, Rosé, White Passito, Red Passito, White Novello, Red Novello and Rosé Novello. The Indication also incorporates numerous grape variety specifications.

Description of product typologies
Umbria PGI Bianco, alone or with specification of grape variety, is straw-yellow, varying in intensity; the nose is delicately fruity with hints of white fleshy fruit; it is sapid, lively and fresh on the palate, with a slightly fruity finish. It can also be produced as semi-sparkling wine. Umbria PGI Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, is ruby red, varying in intensity; the nose is fruity and delicate, becoming spicy with ageing; it is dry and pleasantly bitter on the palate, with good body. It can also be produced as semi-sparkling wine. Umbria PGI Rosato, alone or with specification of grape variety, is pink, varying in intensity; the nose is fragrant, with floral hints and delicate fruity undertones; it is fragrant, sapid and slightly fruity on the palate, with a pleasantly bitter aftertaste. It can also be produced as semi-sparkling wine. Umbria PGI Passito Bianco, alone or with specification of grape variety, ranges from yellow to amber depending on the age of the wine; the nose offers intense, fruity fragrances; it is sapid on the palate, with characteristic notes. Umbria PGI Passito Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, is red, varying in depth and tending towards garnet red; the nose reveals the characteristic fruity notes of the dried red grape and a faint note of caramel; it is harmonious, sweet and full-bodied on the palate. Umbria PGI Novello Bianco is straw-yellow; it is delicately fruity and floral on the nose; the fruity sensations of the nose return on the palate of this fresh, dry wine. Umbria PGI Novello Rosso is ruby red, varying in intensity; the nose reveals vinous, yet delicate notes, typical of the primary aromas; it is dry and sapid on the palate, with good body. Umbria PGI Novello Rosato is pink, varying in intensity; the nose is vinous and delicate; it is dry, harmonious and fresh on the palate.
Grape variety specifications
The Umbria PGI with the specification of one of the grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, is reserved for wines obtained from grapes originating from vineyards on the producer’s land made up of at least 85% of the corresponding varieties. A maximum of 15% of similarly-coloured grapes originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area can be used, pure or combined, to produce the above-mentioned musts and wines. Umbria PGI with specification of two grape varieties is reserved for wines (including Semi-Sparkling) obtained from grapes from vineyards on the producer’s land made up of the corresponding varieties, on the condition that the wine derives exclusively from grapes produced by the two specified varieties; the quantity of grapes produced by each of the two varieties must in any case be greater than 15% of the total, and the specification of the grape varieties must appear on the label in descending order with respect to the actual percentage of grapes obtained from them. The Umbria PGI with specification of one or more grape varieties can also be produced as semi-sparkling wine. Umbria PGI wines with specification of grape variety must display the organoleptic properties of the specified grape variety, as well as the specific characteristics indicated for wines of the same colour.
