Production Area
The production area of Trebbiano d’Abruzzo PDO is within the territory of numerous municipalities in the provinces of Chieti, L’Aquila, Pescara and Teramo, in the Abruzzo region.
Description of product typologies
Trebbiano d’Abruzzo PDO is straw-yellow, varying in intensity; the nose offers intense, delicate fragrances; it is sapid, velvety and harmonious on the palate, ranging from dry to medium-sweet. White Trebbiano d’Abruzzo Protected Designation of Origin wines cannot be released for consumption before January 1st of the year following that in which the grapes were produced.
Geographical and sub-area specifications
The Trebbiano d’Abruzzo PDO can be accompanied by four geographical sub-designations. Trebbiano d’Abruzzo PDO Terre di Chieti is reserved exclusively for white wine (incl. Superiore and Riserva) produced in the Province of Chieti with min. 90% Trebbiano Abruzzese and/or Trebbiano Toscano, pure or with the addition of similarly-coloured grapes originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Abruzzo region, max. 10%. Trebbiano d’Abruzzo PDO Terre di Chieti Superiore wines must undergo a mandatory maturation period of at least 5 months. The wine cannot be released for consumption before April 1st of the year following that in which the grapes were produced. Riserva wines must be aged for at least 12 months. The ageing period commences November 1st of the year in which the grapes were produced. The Trebbiano d’Abruzzo PDO Terre di Chieti can be accompanied by four additional geographical units: Colline Teatine or Teatino, Colline Frentane or Frentania or Frentano, Colline del Sangro, Colline del Vastese or Hystonium. Trebbiano d’Abruzzo PDO Terre Aquilane or Terre de L’Aquila is reserved exclusively for white wine (incl. Superiore and Riserva) produced in the Province of L’Aquila with min. 90% Trebbiano Abruzzese and/or Trebbiano Toscano, pure or with the addition of similarly-coloured grapes originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Abruzzo region, max. 10%. Trebbiano d’Abruzzo PDO Terre Aquilane or Terre de L’Aquila Superiore wines must undergo a mandatory maturation period of at least 5 months. The Trebbiano d’Abruzzo PDO designation can be followed by the specification Vigna (Vineyard) with the relative toponym.
