Description
The Terre Siciliane PGI is reserved for the following types of wine: White (incl. Semi-Sparkling), Red (incl. Semi-Sparkling), Rosé (incl. Semi-Sparkling), White Spumante, Rosé Spumante, White Passito, Red Passito, Rosé Passito, White Late Harvest, Red Late Harvest, White Liqueur, Red Liqueur and Red Novello. The Indication also incorporates four grape variety specifications.

Description of product typologies
Terre Siciliane PGI Bianco, alone or with specification of variety, is straw-yellow; the nose is typically fruity, fine and elegant, with notes of wild flowers and brine; it is sapid on the palate, ranging from dry to medium-sweet. It can be produced as semi-sparkling and Liqueur wine. Terre Siciliane PGI Rosso, alone or with specification of variety, is ruby red; the nose reveals a complex range of fragrances, from red fruit to berries, and from grassy notes to spicy ones; it is harmonious on the palate, ranging from dry to medium-sweet, with the flavours developing based on the grape varieties used. It can also be produced as semi-sparkling, Liqueur and Novello wine. Terre Siciliane PGI Rosato, alone or with specification of variety, is pink, varying in intensity; the nose reveals fragrances of red flowers, pansy and delicate fruit; it is harmonious and balanced on the palate, ranging from dry to medium-sweet. It can also be produced as semi-sparkling wine. Terre Siciliane PGI Spumante Bianco, alone or with specification of variety, is straw-yellow, varying in intensity, and has fine, persistent foam; the fragrances on the nose are elegant and characteristic of fermentation; it is fresh and harmonious on the palate, ranging from extra-brut to sweet. Terre Siciliane PGI Spumante Rosé, alone or with specification of variety, is pink, varying in intensity, and has fine, persistent foam; the nose is delicate, with characteristic fragrances; in the extra-brut to demi-sec versions it is fresh and balanced on the palate. Terre Siciliane PGI Passito Bianco, alone or with specification of variety, ranges from yellow to amber, depending on the age of the wine; the nose offers intense fragrances of ripe fruit, caramel and honey; the sweetness of the nose returns on the palate with characteristic fruity notes. Terre Siciliane PGI Passito Rosso, alone or with specification of variety, is red, varying in depth and tending towards garnet red with ageing; the nose bursts with fragrances of dried red fruit, marasca cherry and cinnamon; it is harmonious, sweet and full-bodied on the palate. Terre Siciliane PGI Vendemmia Tardiva Bianco is straw-yellow to golden; the nose offers characteristic fragrances of the ripe grape, which are delicate and persistent; it is typical and balanced on the palate, ranging from dry to sweet. Terre Siciliane PGI Vendemmia Tardiva Rosso is ruby red, tending towards garnet red with ageing; the nose is delicate with persistent fragrances; it is harmonious and typical on the palate, ranging from dry to sweet.
Grape variety specifications
The Terre Siciliane PGI, with specification of one of the grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Sicily region, with the exception of the Grillo and Calabrese grapes varieties or their synonyms, is reserved for wines obtained from grapes originating from vineyards on the producer’s land made up of at least 85% of the corresponding varieties. A maximum of 15% of similarly-coloured grapes originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area can be used, pure or combined, to produce the above-mentioned musts and wines. Terre Siciliane PGI may display the specification of two, three or four of the grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Sicily region, on the condition that the wine derives exclusively from grapes produced by the specified varieties; the quantity of grapes produced by each of the two varieties must in any case be greater than 15% of the total, and the specification of the grape varieties must appear on the label in descending order with respect to the actual percentage of grapes obtained from them. Terre Siciliane PGI with specification of one or more grape varieties can also be produced as: Semi-Sparkling and Passito for white, red and rosé wines; Spumante for white and rosé wines; Liqueur for white and red wines; Novello for red wine. Terre Siciliane PGI wines with specification of grape variety must display the organoleptic properties of the specified grape variety, as well as the specific characteristics indicated for wines of the same colour.
