The Terre di Veleja PGI is reserved for the following types of wine: White, Red and Rosé; Passito (only with specification of grape variety). The Indication also incorporates numerous grape variety specifications.

The production area of Terre di Veleja PGI is within the territory of numerous municipalities in the Province of Piacenza, in the Emilia-Romagna region.
Description of product typologies
Terre di Veleja PGI Bianco is straw-yellow; the fragrances on the nose reveal sensations of pineapple, apricot, citrus fruit and cut grass; it is minerally, fresh and balanced on the palate, and dry, medium sweet or semi-sweet. It can also be produced as semi-sparkling wine. Terre di Veleja PGI Rosso is red, varying in intensity; the nose reveals intense fragrances of crushed flowers and notes of spices, liqueur cherry and hay; it is full-bodied on the palate, with evident tannins and fruity undertones, also dry, medium sweet, semi-sweet and sweet. It can also be produced as semi-sparkling wine. Terre di Veleja PGI Rosato is pink, varying in intensity; the nose displays evolving fragrances of wild strawberry and raspberry candy on delicate vegetal tones; it is fresh and fragrant on the palate, with a light citrusy vein, varying between dry, medium sweet, semi-sweet and sweet. It can also be produced as semi-sparkling wine. The use of artificial gasification is not permitted for Terre di Veleja PGI semi-sparkling wines.
Grape variety specifications
The Terre di Veleja PGI with specification of one of the grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, is reserved for wines obtained from grapes originating from vineyards on the producer’s land made up of at least 85% of the corresponding varieties. A maximum of 15% of similarly-coloured grapes originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Emilia-Romagna region can be used, pure or combined, to produce the above-mentioned musts and wines. Terre di Veleja PGI wines with specification of grape variety can also be produced as semi-sparkling wine. Terre di Veleja PGI wine with specification of the Moscato grape variety can also be produced as Passito. Terre di Veleja PGI wines with specification of grape variety must display the organoleptic properties of the specified grape variety, as well as the specific characteristics indicated for wines of the same colour.
