Production Area
The production area of Terre di Pisa PDO is within the territory of the municipalities of Fauglia, Crespina, Lari, Chianni, Capannoli, Palaia, Peccioli, Terricciola, Casciana Terme, Ponsacco, Pontedera, Montopoli V.A., Lajatico, San Miniato, Orciano Pisano, Lorenzana and Santa Luce in the Province of Pisa, in the Tuscany region.
Description of product typologies
Terre di Pisa PDO has a ruby-red colour with garnet hues; the nose reveals notes of liqueur fruit alongside balsamic and mineral sensations; it is sapid on the palate, with good body and sweet tannins. Terre di Pisa PDO wines can only be released for consumption after they have undergone a minimum ageing period of 16 months, of which at least 12 months must be in wooden recipients and four months maturing in bottles; the ageing period commences November 1st of the year in which the grapes were produced.

The Terre di Pisa PDO can be accompanied by additional geographical specificationss referring to municipalities, districts, farms and localities within the production area and from where the grapes used to produce the wine effectively originate.
Grape variety specifications
The Terre di Pisa PDO may display the following grape variety specifications. From red grape varieties: min. 95% Sangiovese, pure or with the addition of similarly-coloured grapes originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 5%. The characteristics of the colour, fragrances and flavour of each specification are those typical of the grape variety and terroir of origin.

The Terre di Pisa PDO designation can be followed by the specification Vigna (Vineyard) with the relative toponym.
