The production area of Terre di Chieti PGI is within the entire territory of the Province of Chieti, in the Abruzzo region.
Description of product typologies
Terre di Chieti PGI Bianco is straw-yellow; the nose offers intense fruity fragrances; it is dry and sapid on the palate. It can also be produced as semi-sparkling wine. Terre di Chieti PGI Rosso is ruby red; the nose reveals complex fruity sensations; it is harmonious on the palate. It can also be produced as semi-sparkling wine. Terre di Chieti PGI Rosato is pink, varying in depth; the nose is intense and persistent; it is dry on the palate. It can also be produced as semi-sparkling wine. Terre di Chieti PGI Passito Bianco ranges from yellow to amber, based on the age of the wine; the nose is fruity and intense; it is dry on the palate, with a good content of mineral salts. Terre di Chieti PGI Passito Rosso is red, varying in depth and tending towards garnet red with ageing; the nose is vinous with characteristic notes; it is sweet, harmonious and well-structured on the palate. Terre di Chieti PGI Novello Rosso has a ruby red with purple reflections; the nose reveals fruity fragrances; it is velvety and harmonious on the palate, with a good degree of acidity. Terre di Chieti PGI Novello Rosato is pink, varying in intensity; the nose bursts with fruity notes; it is fresh, harmonious and velvety on the palate.
Grape variety specifications
The Terre di Chieti PGI with specification of one of the grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Abruzzo region, is reserved for wines obtained from grapes originating from vineyards on the producer’s land made up of at least 85% of the corresponding varieties. A maximum of 15% of similarly-coloured unaromatic grapes originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area can be used, pure or combined, to produce the above-mentioned musts and wines. The Terre di Chieti PGI with specification of two grape varieties is reserved for wines obtained from grapes from vineyards on the producer’s land made up of the corresponding varieties, on the condition that the wine derives exclusively from grapes produced by the two specified varieties; the quantity of grapes produced by each of the two varieties must in any case be greater than 15% of the total, and the specification of the grape varieties must appear on the label in descending order with respect to the actual percentage of grapes obtained from them. Terre di Chieti PGI wines with specification of grape variety must display the organoleptic properties of the specified grape variety, as well as the specific characteristics indicated for wines of the same colour.
