The Terre Abruzzesi PGI or Terre d’Abruzzo PGI is reserved for the following types of wine: White, Red, Rosé, White Passito, Red Passito, Novello. The Indication also incorporates numerous grape variety specifications.

Description of product typologies
Terre Abruzzesi PGI or Terre d’Abruzzo PGI Bianco, with or without specification of grape variety, is straw-yellow, varying in intensity; the nose reveals predominantly fruity and floral aromas, more or less evident depending on the grape varieties, and hints of tropical and white pulp fruit; there is a strong aftertaste of white and yellow pulp fruit on the palate, at times also of yellow and white flowers, and it offers good persistence and body, ranging from dry to medium-sweet. It can also be produced as a semi-sparkling wine. Terre Abruzzesi PGI or Terre d’Abruzzo PGI Rosso, with or without specification of grape variety, is ruby red, varying in intensity; the nose offers predominantly fruity aromas, more or less evident depending on the grape varieties, with hints of sour black cherry and ripe small red fruit, at times with vegetal notes; it ranges from dry to medium-sweet on the palate and is slightly tannic, with a predominant aftertaste of ripe red fruit and good body and persistence. It can also be produced as a semi-sparkling wine. Terre Abruzzesi PGI or Terre d’Abruzzo PGI Rosato, with or without specification of grape variety, is pink, varying in depth; it is pleasantly spicy on the nose, with predominantly fruity aromas, more or less evident depending on the grape varieties, and delicate vegetal and tropical fruit notes; it is harmonious, smooth and full-bodied on the palate, ranging from dry to medium-sweet, with good body and persistence and an aftertaste of fruit and spices. It can also be produced as a semi-sparkling wine. Terre Abruzzesi PGI or Terre d’Abruzzo PGI Passito Bianco is yellow, tending towards amber with ageing; the nose offers hints of sweet raisins, cedro, apricot and honey; it ranges from dry to sweet on the palate, with hints of raisins. Terre Abruzzesi PGI or Terre d’Abruzzo PGI Passito Rosso is red, varying in intensity and tending towards garnet red with ageing; the nose reveals notes of ripe red fruit, black sour cherry, plum and jam; it ranges from dry to sweet on the palate, with good structure, offering persistent hints of red raisins. Terre Abruzzesi PGI or Terre d’Abruzzo PGI Novello is ruby red, at times with purplish reflections; it is fruity on the nose, revealing hints of cherry, blackberry and blueberry; it has a fresh flavour, offering hints of red fruit and smooth, silky tannins.
Grape variety specifications
From white grape varieties: minimum 85% Bombino, Chardonnay, Falanghina, Fiano, Garganega, Malvasia (Malvasia di Candia and/or Malvasia bianca lunga), Moscato Bianco, Mostosa, Passerina, Pecorino, Pinot Bianco, Pinot Grigio, Riesling (Riesling Renano and/or Riesling Italico), Sauvignon, Traminer aromatico, Trebbiano (Trebbiano Abruzzese and/or Trebbiano Toscano), Vermentino, Viogner, Sauvignon Kretos, Soreli, pure or with the addition of similarly-coloured grapes originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Abruzzo region, maximum 15%. From red grape varieties: minimum 85% Aglianico, Cabernet (Cabernet Franc and/or Cabernet Sauvignon), Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Volos, Gaglioppo, Maiolica, Malbech, Merlot, Merlot Kanthus, Pinot Nero, Primitivo, Sangiovese, Syrah, pure or with the addition of similarly-coloured grapes originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Abruzzo region, maximum 15%. The Terre Abruzzesi or Terre d’Abruzzo Rosato Protected Geographical Indication may display the following grape variety specifications. From red grape varieties: minimum 85% Merlot, Sangiovese, Pinot Nero, pure or with the addition of similarly-coloured grapes originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Abruzzo region, maximum 15%. The Terre Abruzzesi or Terre d’Abruzzo Protected Geographical Indication for white or red wines with two, three or four grape variety specifications is reserved for wines obtained from grapes obtained from vineyards on the producer’s land made up of the corresponding varieties, on the condition that the wine derives exclusively from grapes produced with the specified varieties, and that the quantity of grapes produced by each variety is higher than 15% of the total. The grape variety specifications must appear on the label in descending order with respect to the actual percentage of grapes obtained from them. Terre Abruzzesi PGI or Terre d’Abruzzo PGI wines with specification of grape variety must display the organoleptic properties of the specified grape variety, as well as the specific characteristics indicated for wines of the same colour.
