Production Area
The production area of Terratico di Bibbona PDO is within the territory of the municipalities of Rosignano Marittimo, Cecina, Bibbona and Collesalvetti in the Province of Livorno, in the Tuscany region.
Description of product typologies
Terratico di Bibbona PDO Bianco is medium straw-yellow, possibly acquiring golden reflections over time; the nose opens with extremely delicate sensations, leading to ample floral notes; it is bone-dry on the palate, pleasantly dry and harmonious. Terratico di Bibbona PDO Rosso is ruby red, tending towards garnet red with ageing; the nose is intense and reminiscent of crushed flowers and mixed berries; it is full and harmonious on the palate, with possible hints of wood and a pleasantly persistent finish. It can display Superiore on the label if the wine has been aged for a minimum period of 18 months, of which at least 12 months must be in wooden barrels; the ageing period commences November 1st of the year in which the grapes were produced. Terratico di Bibbona PDO Rosato is pink, similar to the colour of onion skin; the nose is fine, delicate and rich with red fruit; it is dry, harmonious and floral on the palate, with a fresh fruity aftertaste, balanced with good consistency.
Grape variety specifications
The Terratico di Bibbona PDO may display the following grape variety specifications. From white grape varieties: min. 85% Trebbiano, Vermentino, pure or with the addition of similarly-coloured unaromatic grapes originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 15%. From red grape varieties: min. 85% Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, pure or with the addition of similarly-coloured unaromatic grapes originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 15%. The characteristics of the colour, fragrances and flavour of each specification are those typical of the grape variety and terroir of origin.
