Production Area
The production area of Taurasi PDO is within the entire territory of the municipalities of Taurasi, Bonito, Castelfranci, Castelvetere sul Calore, Fontanarosa, Lapio, Luogosano, Mirabella Eclano, Montefalcione, Montemarano, Montemileto, Paternopoli, Pietradefusi, Sant’Angelo all’Esca, San Mango sul Calore, Torre le Nocelle and Venticano in the Province of Avellino, in the Campania region.
Description of product typologies
Taurasi PDO is intense ruby red, tending towards to garnet red and acquiring orange reflections with ageing; the nose leads to sensations of black plum, blueberry and grassy hints, with notes of aromatic herbs; it is warm and embracing on the palate, revealing a lively tannin and freshness thanks to the measured salinity and leading to a fruity, slightly almondy finish. It can display Riserva on the label following a mandatory ageing period of at least four years, of which a minimum of 18 months must be in wooden barrels; the ageing period commences December 1st of the year in which the grapes were produced. Taurasi PDO wines must be aged for a mandatory period of at least three years, of which a minimum of one year must be in wooden barrels. The vinification processes, including ageing, must be carried out within the territory of the Province of Avellino.
