The production area of Sizzano PDO is within the entire territory of the Municipality of Sizzano in the Province of Novara, in the Piedmont region.
Description of product typologies
Sizzano PDO has a nicely intense ruby-red colour which with ageing can acquire garnet highlights; the nose reveals evident aromas of pansies, fruits of the forest and sweet spices, which tend to evolve into minerality and good balsamicity; the fruity note of the palate is enriched with minerality and freshness and is accompanied by a fine tannin that leads to a long and persistent finish. It can display Riserva on the label.Before being released for consumption, Sizzano PDO Red wines must be aged for a minimum period of 22 months, of which at least 16 months must be in wood; the minimum ageing period for Sizzano PDO Rosso Riserva is 34 months, of which at least 24 months must be in wood. The ageing period for both wines commences November 1st of the year in which the grapes were harvested. Sizzano PDO Rosso can be released for consumption from September 1st of the second year following that in which the grapes were produced, and Sizzano PDO Rosso Riserva from September 1st of the third year following that of the grape harvest.
