The production area of Sabbioneta PGI is within the entire territory of the municipalities of Sabbioneta, Viadana and Commessaggio in the Province of Mantua, in the Lombardy region.
Description of product typologies
Sabbioneta PGI Bianco, alone or with specification of grape variety, has a pale yellow colour; the nose displays delicate and pleasing fragrances that are typically floral and fruity; it is typical and harmonious on the palate with fruity and fresh returns. It can also be produced as Semi-Sparkling wine. Sabbioneta PGI Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, is ruby-red in colour, varying in intensity; the nose is vinous and fruity with cassis, fruits of the forest and wild strawberry; the characteristics of the nose are maintained on the palate and it is sapid and harmonious with a persistent finish. It can also be produced as Semi-Sparkling wine. Sabbioneta PGI Rosé, alone or with specification of grape variety, is pink in colour, varying in tone; the nose reveals delicate fragrances of flowers and pansy and rose petals; it is harmonious, fresh, balanced and delicate on the palate. It can also be produced as Semi-Sparkling wine. Sabbioneta PGI Novello is red in colour; the nose is fruity and typical of a young wine; it is fresh and dry on the palate.
Grape variety specifications
The Sabbioneta PGI with the specification of one of the grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, is reserved for wines that are obtained from grapes originating from vineyard compounds, in a business environment, for at least 85% of the corresponding grape variety. unaromatic grapes similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 15%, can contribute, pure or combined, to the production of the above-mentioned musts and wines. Sabbioneta PGI wines with specification of a black grape variety may also be produced as Novello.Sabbioneta PGI wines with specification of one of the grape varieties used may also be produced as Semi-Sparkling.Sabbioneta PGI wines with specification of grape variety must display the organoleptic properties of the grape variety, as well as the indicated characteristics for the typology of wine.
