Production Area
The production area of Rubino di Cantavenna PDO is within the entire territory of the municipality of Gabiano, including the districts of Cantavenna, Moncestino and Villamiroglio, and the territory of the former municipality of Castel S. Pietro Monferrato, today incorporated into the territory of the municipality of Camino, in the Province of Alessandria, in the Piedmont region.
Description of product typologies
Rubino di Cantavenna PDO is light ruby red with garnet red reflections; the nose offers fruity notes of woodland fruit, from blackcurrant to blueberry, followed by more intense fragrances reminiscent of liquorice and leather; it is smooth, full-bodied, velvety and juicy on the palate, revealing fruity notes and a slightly almondy finish. The vinification processes of Rubino di Cantavenna PDO wines, including mandatory ageing, must be carried out within the production area. Grapes destined for the vinification of Rubino di Cantavenna PDO wines must ensure a minimum natural alcohol level of 11% vol. Rubino di Cantavenna PDO wines cannot be released for consumption before December 31st of the year following that in which the grapes were produced.
