Description
The Rotae PGI is reserved for the following types of wine: White, Red, Rosé, Passito and Novello. The Indication also incorporates numerous grape variety specifications.
Production Area
The production area of Rotae PGI is within the entire territory of the Province of Isernia, in the Molise region.
Description of product typologies
Rotae PGI Bianco, alone or with specification of grape variety, is straw-yellow, varying in intensity; the nose offers sensations of white fruit, at times ripe, and delicate flowers like elderberry and jasmine; the fruity sensations return on the palate, accompanied by minerally or sapid variations and other fruit such as citron, creating an intense and persistent flavour. It can also be produced as semi-sparkling and Passito wine. Rotae PGI Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, is ruby red, varying in intensity; the nose displays dense notes of red fruit blending with spicy and minerally sensations; it is warm, smooth and juicy on the palate, with a persistent finish. It can also be produced as semi-sparkling and Novello wine. Rotae PGI Rosato is pink, varying in delicacy; the nose reveals floral fragrances enriched by fruity and sweet spicy notes; it is fresh, smooth and sapid on the palate. It can also be produced as a semi-sparkling wine. Grapes destined for the production of Rotae Protected Geographical Indication Passito wines can be partially dried on the vines or on trellises.
Grape variety specifications
The Rotae PGI with the specification of one of the grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Molise region, is reserved for wines obtained from grapes originating from vineyards on the producer’s land made up of at least 85% of the corresponding varieties. A maximum of 15% of similarly-coloured grapes originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area can be used, pure or combined, to produce the above-mentioned musts and wines. Rotae PGI wines with specification of grape variety can also be produced as a semi-sparkling or Novello wine, the latter only with red grapes. Rotae PGI wines with specification of grape variety must display the organoleptic properties of the specified grape variety, as well as the specific characteristics indicated for wines of the same colour.
