The production area of Rosso di Montalcino PDO is within the entire territory of the municipality of Montalcino in the Province of Siena, in the Tuscany region.
Description of product typologies
Rosso di Montalcino PDO is ruby red; the intense and fragrant nose reveals aromas of red fruit and spices, with notes of chocolate and minerally hints; it is harmoniously dry and fresh on the palate, full-bodied, offering light tannins and a good aromatic finish. Rosso di Montalcino PDO wines cannot be released for consumption before September 1st of the year following that in which the grapes were produced. The vinification, storage and bottling processes must be carried out within the production area.
Additional specifications
The Rosso di Montalcino PDO can be followed by the specification Vigna or Vigneto (Vineyard) with the relative toponym. Specifications which indicate the bottlers’ agricultural business are also permitted, such as Viticoltore (Winemaker), Fattoria (Farm), Tenuta (Holding), Podere (Small Farm) and other similar terms, in compliance with current provisions.
