Production Area
The production area of Romagna Albana PDO is within all or parts of the territory of the municipalities of Castrocaro Terme e Terra del Sole, Forlì, Forlimpopoli, Meldola, Bertinoro, Cesena, Montiano, Roncofreddo, Savignano sul Rubicone, Longiano in the Province of Forlì-Cesena; the municipalities of Castelbolognese, Riolo Terme, Faenza, Casola Valsenio, Brisighella in the Province of Ravenna; the municipalities of Borgo Tossignano, Casalfiumanese, Castel San Pietro Terme, Dozza Imolese, Fontanelice, Imola, Ozzano Emilia in the Province of Bologna, in the Emilia-Romagna region.
Description of product typologies
Romagna Albana PDO Bianco Secco (dry), Amabile (semi-sweet) and Dolce (sweet) wines range from straw-yellow to golden yellow, depending on the age of the wine; the nose offers fairly intense floral and fruity fragrances, with strong hints of toasted almond, jammy peach and apricot; there is a pleasant freshness on the palate, revealing the same fruity and floral sensations of the nose. Romagna Albana PDO Passito and Passito Riserva wines are golden yellow, tending towards amber; the nose is sweet and intense with evident notes of ripe fruit; it is velvety, harmonious, and extremely fine and elegant on the palate. Romagna Albana PDO Passito and Romagna Albana PDO Passito Riserva wines must be obtained from grapes that have been dried no longer than March 30th of the year following that of the grape harvest; the use of ventilated and dehumidified air is permitted for the dehydration of the grapes. The vinification, storage and maturation of all types of Romagna Albana PDO wines can be carried out in wooden containers. Romagna Albana PDO Passito wines cannot be released for consumption before September 1st of the year following that in which the grapes were produced; for Romagna Albana PDO Passito Riserva wines the date is December 1st of the year following that of the grape harvest.
