Description
The Planargia PGI is reserved for the following types of wine: White, Red, Rosé and Novello. The Indication also incorporates numerous grape variety specifications.
Production Area
The production area of Planargia PGI is within the entire territory of the municipalities of Bosa, Flussio, Magomadas, Modolo, Sagama, Suni, Tinnura and Tresnuraghes in the Province of Oristano, in the Sardinia region.
Description of product typologies
Planargia PGI Bianco, alone or with specification of variety, is straw-yellow, varying in intensity; the nose offers fragrances ranging from exotic to dried fruit; it is smooth, warm and embracing on the palate in all the wines ranging from dry to sweet. It can be produced as a semi-sparkling wine. Planargia PGI Rosso, alone or with specification of variety, is ruby red to garnet red; the nose displays extremely varying fragrances of fruit, flowers, balsamic and brushwood; it is warm, embracing, mellow and harmonious on the palate in all the wines ranging from dry to sweet. It can be produced as a semi-sparkling wine. Planargia PGI Rosato, alone or with specification of variety, is pink, varying in intensity; the nose displays moderate floral and fruity fragrances of blueberry, which are balsamic and intense; it is fresh, smooth and lively on the palate in all the wines ranging from dry to sweet. It can be produced as a semi-sparkling wine. Planargia PGI Novello, alone or with specification of variety, is purplish-red to ruby red; the nose bursts with fragrances of marasca cherry and red fruit; it is rounded and smooth on the palate, with medium-body, ranging from medium-sweet to dry.
Grape variety specifications
The Planargia PGI with specification of one of the grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Sardinia region, excluding the Cannonau, Carignano, Girò, Malvasia, Monica, Moscato, Nasco, Nuragus, Semidano, Vermentino and Vernaccia varieties, is reserved for wines obtained from grapes from vineyards on the producer’s land made up of at least 85% of the corresponding varieties. A maximum of 15% of similarly-coloured unaromatic grapes originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area can be used, pure or combined, to produce the above-mentioned musts and wines. Planargia PGI with the specification of one of the grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the region can also be produced as a semi-sparkling or Novello wine, the latter only for wines obtained from red grape varieties. Planargia PGI wines with specification of grape variety must display the organoleptic properties of the specified grape variety, as well as the specific characteristics indicated for wines of the same colour.
