Production Area
The production area of Pinerolese PDO is within the territory of numerous municipalities in the provinces of Cuneo and Turin, in the Piedmont region.
Description of product typologies
Pinerolese PDO Rosso is pale ruby red with garnet red reflections; the nose displays intense aromas of sour cherry and elderberry; it is dry and rich on the palate, with delicate, intense floral and fruity sensations and a faint hint of vanilla. Pinerolese PDO Rosato ranges from pink to light ruby red; the nose is delicate and pleasant, offering faint hints of cherry and almond blossom; it is dry and harmonious on the palate, with a long, persistent finish. The vinification processes of Pinerolese Protected Designation of Origin wines must take place within the provinces of Asti, Alessandria, Cuneo and Torino. Bottling can be carried out throughout the entire Piedmont region.
Grape variety specifications
The Pinerolese PDO may display the following grape variety specifications. From red grape varieties: min. 85% Barbera, Bonarda, Freisa, Dolcetto, Doux d’Henry, pure or with the addition of similarly-coloured unaromatic grapes originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 15%. For the red grape variety specification Rosso Ramie: min. 30% Avanà, min. 15% Avarengo, 20% Neretto, pure or with the addition of similarly-coloured unaromatic grapes originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 35%. The characteristics of the colour, fragrances and flavour of each specification are those typical of the grape variety and terroir of origin.
