The production area of Pentro di Isernia PDO or Pentro PDO is within the territory of the municipalities of Agnone, Belmonte del Sannio, Castelverrino, Colli a Volturno, Fornelli, Isernia, Longano, Macchia di Isernia, Miranda, Montaquila, Monteroduni, Pesche, Pietrabbondante, Poggio Sannita, Pozzilli, Sant’Agapito and Venafro in the Province of Isernia, in the Molise region.
Description of product typologies
Pentro di Isernia PDO or Pentro PDO Bianco has a delicate straw-yellow colour with greenish highlights; fl oral sensations of white flowers and fruity suggestions of white peach develop on the nose; it is sapid, fresh and fruity on the palate. Pentro di Isernia PDO or Pentro PDO Rosso has an intense ruby-red colour; the nose offers fragrances of marasca cherry and fruits of the forest which alternate with sensations of sweet spices, liquorice and vanilla; it is warm and smooth on the palate, with evident tannins and a long, persistent aromatic finish. It may display Riserva on the label if the wine has been aged for a minimum period of 4 years, of which at least 2 years must be in wooden barrels; the ageing period commences November 1st of the year in which the grapes were harvested. Pentro di Isernia PDO or Pentro PDO Rosé is pink in colour, varying in intensity; the nose is delicate and pleasing, offering suggestions of rose petals, small red fruit and sweet spices; it is dry, sapid, harmonious and pleasantly acidulous on the palate, with a light almondy background. Pentro di Isernia PDO or Pentro PDO wines, with the exclusion of Pentro di Isernia PDO or Pentro PDO Rosso Riserva, can be released for consumption after a minimum refining period of 6 months in wooden barrels; the period commences November 1st of the year in which the grapes were picked.
