The production area of Ogliastra PGI is within the territory of numerous municipalities in the provinces of Nuoro and Sud Sardegna, in the Sardinia region.
Description of product typologies
Ogliastra PGI Bianco, alone or with specification of grape variety, is paper-white to amber-yellow in colour; the nose offers varying degrees of floral and fruity fragrances depending on the grape varieties used; it is dry and fresh on the palate, with a slightly fruity flavour. It can also be produced as Semi-Sparkling wine. Ogliastra PGI Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, is smooth ruby-red to garnet in colour; the nose is delicate, with characteristic fragrances of red fruit, traces of spices and aromatic herbs and an aromatic complexity deriving from the grape varieties used; it is dry and sapid on the palate, at times with evident tannins, with good body. It can also be produced as Semi-Sparkling wine. Ogliastra PGI Rosé, alone or with specification of grape variety, is varying shades of pink in colour; it displays delicate fruity fragrances on the nose; it is dry and harmonious on the palate, with the characteristics of the grape varieties of origin. It can also be produced as Semi-Sparkling wine. Ogliastra PGI Novello Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, has a vivid ruby-red colour with purple highlights; the nose displays characteristic fragrances of red fruit; it is dry or medium-sweet on the palate.
Grape variety specifications
Ogliastra PGI, with the specification of one of the grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Sardinia region, with the exclusion of the Cannonau, Carignano, Girò, Malvasia, Monica, Muscat, Nasco, Nuragus, Semidano, Vermentino and Vernaccia varieties, is reserved for wines that are obtained from grapes originating from vineyard compounds, in a business environment, for at least 85% of the corresponding grape variety. unaromatic grapes similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Sardinia region, max. 15%, can contribute, pure or combined, to the production of the above-mentioned musts and wines. Ogliastra PGI wines with specification of one of the authorised grape varieties can also be produced as Semi-Sparkling wine, as well as Novello for wines obtained with red grape varieties. Ogliastra PGI wines with specification of grape variety must display the organoleptic properties of the grape variety, as well as the indicated characteristics for the typology of wine.
