The production area of Negroamaro di Terra d’Otranto PDO is within the entire territory of the provinces of Lecce, Brindisi and Taranto, in the Apulia region.
Description of product typologies
Negroamaro di Terra d’Otranto PDO Rosso is ruby red, tending towards garnet red with ageing; the nose is intense with fragrances of tobacco, leather and ripe mixed berries; it is full, warm and harmonious on the palate. It can display Riserva on the label if the wine has been aged for at least 2 years, commencing December 1st of the year in which the grapes were produced. Negroamaro di Terra d’Otranto PDO Rosato is pink, varying in intensity; the nose displays evident fragrances of red fruit and roses, with slightly balsamic sensations; it is fresh and sapid on the palate, with floral undertones. It can also be produced as a semi-sparkling wine. Negroamaro di Terra d’Otranto PDO Spumante Rosé is pink, varying in intensity, and has fine, persistent foam; the nose displays evident hints of strawberry and small red fruit which blend with floral sensations; it opens with harmonious freshness on the palate, offering a flavour that ranges from extra-brut to extra-dry. All of the wines can be made from grapes that have been dried on the vines, on matting or in crates, including in grape drying rooms, or in environments with controlled temperature, humidity and ventilation.
