The production area of Nasco di Cagliari PDO is within the territory of numerous municipalities in the provinces of Cagliari, Sud Sardegna and Oristano, in the Sardinia region.
Description of product typologies
Nasco di Cagliari PDO Bianco varies from straw-yellow to golden-yellow; the nose is complex, with traces of ripe syrupy fruit and ripe apricots, including dried; the attack on the palate is sweet, drawn out with slightly bitter, characteristic notes. Nasco di Cagliari PDO Liquoroso ranges from straw-yellow to amber-yellow; the nose is ethereal and embracing, with hints of ripe fruit blending with balsamic notes of honey and sun-dried peaches; the characteristics of the nose return on the palate, offering an enjoyable flavour. Riserva can be displayed on the label if the wine has been aged for a minimum period of two years, of which at least one year must be in oak or chestnut barrels; the ageing period commences from the alcoholisation date of the wine. Grapes destined for the vinification of Nasco di Cagliari PDO wines must ensure a minimum natural alcohol level of 13% vol.; the addition of must or base wine concentrations to increase the total alcohol level is not permitted. Alcohol produced through winemaking can be added to the must or base wine during the production of Nasco di Cagliari PDO Liquoroso wines. The grapes can be partially dried on the vines or on matting. Nasco di Cagliari PDO wines cannot be released for consumption before July 1st of the year following that in which the grapes were produced.
