Description of product typologies
Moscato di Sardegna PDO Bianco is bright golden yellow; the nose offers aromatic notes and floral sensations; it is sweet and delicate on the palate, with strong flavours of yellow fruit and apricot jam. Moscato di Sardegna PDO Spumante is straw-yellow with and has fine, effervescent foam; the nose is aromatic, rich with floral and fruity notes and light hints of almond, honey and freshly baked cakes; it is sweet on the palate, with an excellent balance between fizziness and the embracing warmth of the Muscato grape. Moscato di Sardegna PDO Passito ranges from golden yellow to amber-yellow in colour; the nose is intense, with aromas of candied fruit and acacia; the aromas of the nose are ample on the palate, with velvety, harmonious and rounded notes. Moscato di Sardegna PDO da Uve Stramature is intense golden yellow with yellow to amber hues; the nose offers strong and persistent hints of raisins and honey, entwined with evident floral notes; it is full-bodied and velvety on the palate, with sensations of caramelised fruit. Grapes destined for the production of Moscato di Sardegna PDO Passito can be dried on matting or in suitable environments, and partial dehydration with the aid of ventilated air, forced ventilation or in special thermo-conditioned environments is permitted. Moscato di Sardegna PDO Bianco cannot be released for consumption before March 1st of the year following that in which the grapes were produced; Moscato di Sardegna PDO Spumante can be released for consumption from October 15th of the year in which the grapes were produced, while for Moscato di Sardegna PDO Passito and Moscato di Sardegna PDO da Uve Stramature wines the date is July 1st of the year following that of the grape harvest.
Geographical and sub-area specifications
For Spumante wines, the Moscato di Sardegna PDO designation can be accompanied by two geographical sub-area designations: Moscato di Sardegna PDO Tempio Pausania or Tempio and Moscato di Sardegna PDO Gallura. These designations are reserved for Moscato di Sardegna PDO Spumante wines which undergo gasification processes in Gallura, and which are obtained from grapes that are approved, produced and vinified respectively in the territory of Tempio Pausania and the territory defined as Gallura, which incorporates the municipalities of Aggius, Aglientu, Arzachena, Badesi, Berchidda, Bortigiadas, Budoni, Calangianus, Golfo Aranci, Loiri Porto San Paolo, Luogosanto, Luras, Monti, Olbia, Oschiri, Palau, Sant’Antonio di Gallura, San Teodoro, Santa Teresa di Gallura, Telti, Tempio Pausania and Trinità d’Agultu in the Province of Nord-Est Sardegna, and the municipality of Viddalba in the Province of Sassari.
