Production Area
The production area of Montecucco Sangiovese PDO is within the territory of the municipalities of Cinigiano, Civitella Paganico, Campagnatico, Castel del Piano, Roccalbegna, Arcidosso and Seggiano in the Province of Grosseto, in the Tuscany region.
Description of product typologies
Montecucco Sangiovese PDO has a decisive ruby red colour; the nose offers dominant fruity fragrances of cherry and woods, with a light floral background and spicy notes; it is dry, fresh and harmonious on the palate, with good structure and evident tannins. It can display Riserva on the label if it the wine has been aged for a mandatory period of at least 30 months, of which a minimum of 24 months must be in oak recipients and 6 months in the bottle; the ageing period commences November 1st of the year in which the grapes were produced. Montecucco Sangiovese PDO Rosso wine cannot be released for consumption before April 1st of the second year following that in the grapes were produced, subject to the mandatory ageing period of 12 months in wooden recipients and 4 months in the bottle. Montecucco Sangiovese PDO Riserva wine cannot be released for consumption before September 1st of the third year following that in which the grapes were produced.
