Description of product typologies
Monica di Sardegna PDO is bright colour with purplish reflections; the nose is intense, with jammy notes of red fruit which blend smoothly with an aromatic vegetal sensation, giving the wine a particular freshness with balsamic traces; it is dry, sapid and slightly acidic on the palate, with a characteristic aftertaste. It can also be produced as a semi-sparkling wine and display Superiore on the label. Grapes destined for the vinification of Monica di Sardegna PDO wines must ensure a minimum natural alcohol level of 10.5% vol.; for Monica di Sardegna PDO Superiore wines the minimum natural alcohol level must be 12% vol. Monica di Sardegna PDO wines cannot be released for consumption before March 31st of the following that in which the grapes were produced; Monica di Sardegna PDO Superiore wines can be released for consumption from September 1st of the year following that of the grape harvest.
Additional specifications
Semi-sweet Monica di Sardegna PDO wines, both Tranquillo and Frizzante, must display the specification “Amabile” (Semi-Sweet) on the label.
