Production Area
The production area of Matino PDO is within the territory of the municipality of Matino and parts of the municipalities of Parabita, Alezio, Taviano, Casarano, Melissano, Tuglie and Gallipoli, in the Province of Lecce, in the Apulia region.
Description of product typologies
Matino PDO Rosso is ruby red, tending towards garnet red with ageing; the nose displays intense fragrances of ripe red fruit and berries, accompanied by notes of liquorice and aromatic herbs; it is warm, smooth and intense on the palate, with lively tannins. Matino PDO Rosato is coral-pink; the nose offers a variety of aromas with hints of fresh fruit and aromatic notes; it is fresh and sharp on the palate, with a fruity finish. Grapes destined for the vinification of Matino PDO wine must ensure a minimum natural alcohol level of 11% vol. The vinification and ageing processes of Matino PDO wines must take place within the production area, although these operations, even parts of them, are permitted throughout the entire territory of the municipalities, including the production area of the grapes.
