Production Area
The production area of Mandrolisai PDO is within the entire territory of the municipalities of Ortueri, Atzara, Sorgono, Tonara, Desulo and Meana Sardo in the Province of Nuoro, and in the Municipality of Samugheo in the Province of Oristano, in the Sardinia region.
Description of product typologies
Mandrolisai PDO Rosso has a bright, intense ruby-red colour, tending towards orangey-red with ageing; the nose displays evident notes of small red fruit and ripe blackberry; it is thin and fresh on the palate, with intense fruity notes and a slightly almondy aftertaste. It may display Superiore on the label if the wine has undergone a minimum ageing period of 2 years, of which at least 1 year must be in wooden barrels, commencing November 1st of the year in which the grapes were produced. Mandrolisai PDO Rosé is pink to cherry-pink in colour; the nose offers pleasing and vinous notes with fruity sensations; it is sapid, velvety and dry on the palate, with a pleasantly bitter aftertaste.
Geographical and sub-area specifications
The geographic name “Sardegna” (Sardinia) may precede the Mandrolisai PDO designation, according to ministerial decree.
