The production area of Locride PGI is within the territory of numerous municipalities in the Province of Reggio Calabria, in the Calabria region.
Description of product typologies
Locride PGI Bianco, alone or with specification of one or two grape varieties, is straw-yellow; the nose offers varying degrees of floral and fruity fragrances based on the grape varieties used; it is dry and fresh on the palate, with a slightly fruity flavour and good persistence. Locride PGI Rosso is ruby red; the nose is delicate, with characteristic fragrances of red fruit and traces of spices, with an aromatic complexity deriving from the grape varieties used; it is dry and sapid on the palate, at times with tannins, and has good body. Locride PGI Rosato is pink, varying in intensity; it displays delicate fruity fragrances on the nose; it is dry, harmonious and fresh on the palate, with the characteristics of the grape varieties of origin. Locride PGI Novello is deep red; the nose offers intense fruity notes; it is harmonious and pleasant on the palate.
Grape variety specifications
The Locride PGI with specification of the Montonico grape variety is reserved for wines obtained from grapes originating from vineyards on the producer’s land made up of at least 85% of the corresponding variety. A maximum of 15% of grapes originating from unaromatic white grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Calabria region can be used, pure or combined, to produce the above-mentioned musts and wines., max. 15%. Locride PGI wines with specification of grape must display the organoleptic properties of the specified grape variety, as well as the specific characteristics indicated for wines of the same colour.
