The production area of Lessona PDO is within the entire territory of the Municipality of Lessona in the Province of Biella, in the Piedmont region.
Description of product typologies
Lessona PDO is garnet red in colour, acquiring orangey hues with ageing; the nose presents a characteristic and light fragrance reminiscent of pansies and blueberry jam; it is dry and persistent on the palate with an intensely fruity flavour. It can display Riserva on the label. Lessona PDO Rosso must undergo a mandatory ageing period of 22 months, of which at least 12 months must be in wood, commencing November 1st of the year in which the grapes were harvested; for Lessona PDO Riserva wines the mandatory ageing period is 46 months, of which 30 must be in wood, also commencing November 1st of the year in which the grapes were harvested. Lessona PDO wines can be released for consumption from September 1st of the second year following that in which the grapes were harvested; from September 1st of the fourth year following that of the grape harvest for Lessona PDO Riserva wines.
