Production Area
The production area of Greco di Tufo PDO is within the territory of the municipalities of Tufo, Altavilla Irpina, Chianche, Montefusco, Prata di Principato Ultra, Petruro Irpino, Santa Paolina and Torrioni, in the Province of Avellino, in the Campania region.
Description of product typologies
Greco di Tufo PDO Bianco is straw-yellow, varying in intensity; the nose offers intense sensations of white fleshy fruit like melon and peach, and hints of fresh fruit such as apple, on a background of aromatic herbs; it is dry on the palate, with a fresh sensation that reveals a note of sapidity and ends with traces of minerals and citrus fruit. It can display Riserva on the label if it has been aged for at least 12 months, commencing November 1st of the harvest year. Greco di Tufo PDO Spumante is straw-yellow, varying in intensity, with greenish or golden reflections and fine, persistent foam; the nose is characteristic and pleasant, with a delicate hint of yeast; it is sapid on the palate, light and harmonious in the wines ranging from extra-brut to brut. It can display Riserva on the label. Greco di Tufo PDO Spumante (including Riserva) must be produced through secondary fermentation in the bottle (Metodo Classico). Greco di Tufo PDO Spumante and Greco di Tufo PDO Spumante Riserva must be left to mature on the lees in the bottle for 18 and 36 months, respectively, commencing November 1st of the year in which the grapes were produced. Grapes destined for vinification must ensure that Greco di Tufo PDO wines have a minimum natural alcohol level of 11.5% vol.
