The production area of Gattinara PDO is within the entire territory of the municipality of Gattinara in the Province of Vercelli, in the Piedmont region.
Description of product typologies
Gattinara PDO is garnet-red to orange red; the nose is light and reminiscent of pansies, especially in aged wines, and is rich with Mediterranean herbs and red fruit jams; it is dry and harmonious on the palate, with a characteristic almondy background that is accompanied by balsamic and mineral notes. It can display Riserva on the label. The wine must be aged for a mandatory period of 35 months (47 for the Riserva wine), commencing November 1st of the year in which the grapes were harvested, of which 24 months must be in wood (36 for the Riserva). Grapes destined for the vinification of Gattinara PDO wines must ensure a minimum natural alcohol level of 12.5% vol., and 13% vol. for Riserva wines.
