Production Area
The production area of Gambellara PDO is within the territory of the municipalities of Gambellara, Montebello Vicentino, Montorso Vicentino and Zermeghedo in the Province of Vicenza, in the Veneto region.
Description of product typologies
Gambellara PDO Bianco is golden straw-yellow in colour; the nose offers intense suggestions of pineapple which blend together with medlar, cherry blossom and mineral notes; the fruitiness and mineral notes return on the palate together with freshness and sapidity. It may display Superiore and Classico on the label. Gambellara PDO Spumante is bright straw-yellow in colour with fine and persistent foam; the nose is pleasing and characteristic; it is fresh and light on the palate, ranging from extra-brut to dry. Gambellara PDO Vin Santo is amber in colour, varying in intensity; the nose centres around notes of syrupy apricot, dates, orange peel and honey; it is sweet, harmonious, fresh and velvety on the palate, with possible woody sensations. Grapes destined for the production of Gambellara PDO Vin Santo wine must undergo a drying period, during which the aid of environmental air conditioning is permitted on the condition that it operates at similar temperatures to those found with traditional drying methods. Vin Santo wine can only be released for consumption after a two-year ageing period, commencing January 1st of the year following that in which the grapes were produced.
