Production Area
The production area of Friuli Latisana PDO is within the territory of numerous municipalities in the provinces of Udine and Pordenone, in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region.
Description of product typologies
Friuli Latisana PDO Bianco is straw-yellow in colour, varying in intensity; the nose is richly floral and displays delicate fruity fragrances of peach, melon, apple and candied citrus fruit, as well as being slightly mineral; it is dry, fresh and sapid on the palate and is pleasantly fleshy. It can display Superiore and Riserva on the label. Friuli Latisana PDO Rosso is ruby-red colour in colour, varying in intensity; the nose offers fragrances of jammy fruits of the forest, fern, liquorice or sweet spices; it is dry, smooth and slightly grassy on the palate. It can display Superiore and Riserva on the label. Friuli Latisana PDO Rosé is light red in colour; the nose is reminiscent of wild strawberry, pansy and geranium; it is fresh, intense and persistent on the palate. It can also be a Semi-Sparkling wine. Friuli Latisana PDO Passito is yellow tending towards golden or copper in colour; the nose displays fragrances of chamomile, dried apricot and tropical fruit; it is sweet, smooth and mellow on the palate. It can display Superiore and Riserva on the label. Friuli Latisana PDO Novello has a characteristic ruby-red colour, varying in intensity; the nose is fruity and vinous; it is sapid and lively on the palate. Friuli Latisana PDO Spumante with specification of the grape variety has the organoleptic properties typical of the grapes and terroir of origin.
Grape variety specifications
The Friuli Latisana PDO may display the following grape variety specifications. From white grape varieties: min. 85% Friulano (incl. Superiore, Riserva), Pinot Blanc (incl. Semi-Sparkling, Spumante), Pinot Gris, Verduzzo Friulano (incl. Semi-Sparkling), Traminer Aromatico, Chardonnay (incl. Superiore, Riserva), Sauvignon, Malvasia (incl. Semi-Sparkling, Spumante), Riesling, Pinot Noir (incl. Semi-Sparkling, Spumante, Superiore, Riserva), pure or with the addition of similarly-coloured unaromatic grapes originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 10%. From red grape varieties (including Novello, Superiore, Riserva): min. 85% Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet (Franc and/or Sauvignon and/or Carmenère), Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso, Merlot, Carmenère, Franconia, pure or with the addition of similarly-coloured unaromatic grapes originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 15%.
