Description of product typologies
Freisa d’Asti PDO Rosso is ruby red, tending towards garnet red with ageing; delicate aromas of rose and raspberry are predominant on the nose, evolving into mossy hints with ageing; it ranges from dry to semi-sweet on the palate, with delicate tannins which evolve and become more harmonious with maturing in oak barrels. It can also be a semi-sparkling wine and display Superiore on the label when it has been aged up until November 1st of the year following that in which the grapes were produced, with at least six months in wooden barrels. Freisa d’Asti PDO Spumante ranges from ruby red to garnet red, varying in intensity, to pink, and has fine, persistent foam; the nose displays delicate hints of raspberry and rose; it is fresh on the palate, with a pleasant raspberry background in wines ranging from extra brut to sweet. Grapes destined for the production of Freisa d’Asti PDO wine must ensure a minimum natural alcohol level of 11% vol., and 12% vol. for Superiore wines. It is mandatory for the year the grapes were produced in to be indicated on the label of Freisa d'Asti Protected Designation of Origin wines, with the exception of Frizzante wines and non-millesimato Spumantes. Freisa d' Asti PDO wines can be vinified and aged anywhere in the provinces of Asti, Alessandria, Cuneo and Turin.
