Description
The Forlì PGI is reserved for the following types of wine: White, Red, Rosé (incl. Vivace and semi-sparkling), White Spumante, Rosé Spumante, Red Passito, Novello and partially fermented grape Must. The Indication also incorporates numerous grape variety specifications.

The production area of Forlì PGI is within the territory of numerous municipalities in the Province of Forlì-Cesena, in the Emilia-Romagna region.
Description of product typologies
Forlì PGI Bianco, alone or with specification of grape variety, is straw-yellow, varying in depth; the nose offers various degrees of fragrances, with fruity, floral and spicy notes based on the varietal composition and cultivation area; it is dry and fresh on the palate, with a slightly fruity flavour and good persistence. It can also be produced as Frizzante and Vivace wine. Forlì PGI Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, is ruby red, varying in intensity; the nose is delicate, with characteristic fragrances of red fruit and traces of spices and aromatic herbs, with a balsamic complexity deriving from the grape varieties used; it is dry and sapid on the palate, with good body and at times evident tannins, ranging from dry to sweet. It can also be produced as Frizzante and Vivace wine. Forlì PGI Rosé, alone or with specification of grape variety, is pink, varying in intensity; it displays delicate fruity fragrances on the nose; it is dry, harmonious and fresh on the palate, ranging from dry to sweet, with the characteristics of the grape varieties of origin. It can also be produced as Frizzante, Vivace or Spumante wine. Forlì PGI Spumante Bianco, alone or with specification of grape variety, is straw-yellow; the nose offers fresh floral and fruity notes with hints of bread crust, varying in intensity according to the length of time spent maturing on the lees; it is fresh and extremely sapid on the palate, ranging from brut nature to sweet. Forlì PGI Spumante Rosato, alone or with specification of grape variety, is pink, varying in shades and intensity; it displays fruity and floral notes on the nose, accompanied by aromas correlated to the length of time spent maturing on the lees; it is fresh and sapid on the palate, ranging from brut nature to sweet. Forlì PGI Passito Rosso is ruby red, varying in intensity; the nose displays fruity notes accompanied by floral notes of violet and traces of spices; it is dry and balanced on the palate, ranging from dry to sweet. Forlì PGI Novello, alone or with specification of grape variety, is bright ruby red; the nose is vinous with evident fruity notes; it is pleasantly smooth and acidic on the palate. For the partially fermented grape Musts, the characteristics must correspond to those described above for the relative wines, although the flavour is always sweet.
Grape variety specifications
Forlì PGI with the specification of one of the grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Emilia-Romagna region, is reserved for wines obtained from grapes originating from vineyards on the producer’s land made up of at least 85% of the corresponding varieties. A maximum of 15% of similarly-coloured unaromatic grapes originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area can be used, pure or combined, to produce the above-mentioned musts and wines. White, red and rosé Forlì PGI wines with the specification of one of the authorised grape varieties may also be produced as Vivace and Frizzante wines and partially fermented grape Must; red wines can be produced as Novello; only white wines can be produced as Spumante. Forlì PGI with specification of two authorised grape varieties is reserved for the relative wines under the conditions provided for by European regulations, including: Vivace, Frizzante and partially fermented grape Must for white, red and rosé wines; Spumante, exclusively for white wines; Novello, exclusively for red wines. Forlì PGI wines with specification of grape variety must display the organoleptic properties of the specified grape variety, as well as the specific characteristics indicated for wines of the same colour.
