The production area of Dolcetto di Ovada PDO is within the entire territory of the municipalities of Ovada, Belforte Monferrato, Bosio, Capriata d’Orba, Carpeneto, Casaleggio Boiro, Cassinelle, Castelletto d’Orba, Cremolino, Lerma, Molare, Montaldeo, Montaldo Bormida, Mornese, Morsasco, Parodi Ligure, Prasco, Rocca Grimalda, San Cristoforo, Silvano d’Orba, Tagliolo Monferrato, Trisobbio, in the Province of Alessandria, in the Piedmont region.
Description of product typologies
Dolcetto di Ovada PDO is a deep and extremely bright ruby red colour, with purplish reflections; the nose displays delicate fragrances of cherry, prune and pansy, with slightly balsamic notes creating an overall fresh smell, leading to hints of leather in older wines; it is smooth, well-balanced and dry on the palate, with smooth tannins and a delicate almondy finish. Grapes destined for the vinification of Dolcetto di Ovada Protected Designation of Origin wines must ensure a minimum natural alcohol level of 11% vol. The vinification and ageing processes of Dolcetto di Ovada PDO wines must be carried out within the provinces of Alessandria, Asti, Cuneo and Turin, Genoa and Savona.
