The production area of Dolcetto d’Alba PDO is within the territory of numerous municipalities in the Province of Cuneo, and the municipality of Coazzolo in the Province of Asti, in the Piedmont region.
Description of product typologies
Dolcetto d’Alba PDO is bright ruby red; the nose is fresh and decisively fruity with sour cherry and blackberry, with minty notes creating a pleasant balsamic and refreshing sensation. It is pleasantly dry on the palate, with a full and harmonious body; there is a blend of fruity, vegetal and balsamic sensations with undertones of brushwood and jam, followed by an aftertaste of bitter almond and balanced tannin and an incredibly persistent finish. It can display Superiore on the label if it has undergone a minimum ageing period of 12 months, commencing November 1st of the year in which the grapes were harvested. Dolcetto d’Alba PDO Superiore wines can be released for consumption from November 1st of the year following that in which the grapes were harvested. Grapes destined for the vinification of Dolcetto d’Alba PDO wines must ensure a minimum natural alcohol level of 11% vol., while the minimum natural alcohol level for Dolcetto d’Alba PDO Superiore wines must be 12% vol.
