The production area of Dolcetto d’Acqui PDO is within the entire territory of the municipalities of Acqui Terme, Alice Bel Colle, Ricaldone, Cassine, Strevi, Rivalta Bormida, Castelnuovo Bormida, Sezzadio, Terzo, Bistagno, Ponti, Castelletto d’Erro, Denice, Montechiaro, Spigno Monferrato, Cortosio, Pinzone, Morbello, Grognardo, Cavatore, Melasso, Visone, Orsara Bormida, in the Province of Alessandria, in the Piedmont region.
Description of product typologies
Dolcetto d’Acqui PDO is intense ruby red, tending towards brick-red with ageing; the nose offers fruity notes of blackcurrants and raspberries, with floral and mildly spicy sensations; it is fresh, fruity and slightly sapid on the palate, with a spicy finish. It can display Superiore on the label if the wine has undergone a minimum ageing period of one year, commencing January 1st of the year in which the grapes were produced. The grapes destined for the vinification of Dolcetto d’Acqui Protected Designation of Origin wine must ensure a minimum natural alcohol level of 11% vol; the minimum natural alcohol level of Dolcetto d’Acqui PDO Superiore must be 12% vol. The vinification and ageing processes of Dolcetto d’Acqui Protected Designation of Origin wines must be carried out within the territory of the provinces of Asti, Alessandria, Cuneo, Turin, Genoa or Savona.
