The production area of Colline Teatine PGI is within the territory of numerous municipalities in the Province of Chieti, in the Abruzzo region.
Description of product typologies
Colline Teatine PGI Bianco, alone or with specification of grape variety, is straw-yellow, with nuances of varying intensity; the nose is fruity and well-balanced, with good sapidity and a tart note; it is dry and sapid on the palate. It can also be a semi-sparkling wine. Colline Teatine PGI Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, is red, turning darker shades with ageing; the nose offers fruity sensations, while it is well-balanced on the palate. It can also be a semi-sparkling wine. Colline Teatine PGI Rosato, alone or with specification of grape variety, is various shades of pink; the nose reveals intense and persistent fragrances; it is characteristic and dry on the palate. It can also be a semi-sparkling wine. Colline Teatine PGI Passito Bianco, alone or with specification of grape variety, is yellow, tending towards amber with ageing; the nose is rich with intense fruity fragrances; it is dry and sapid on the palate, with the characteristics of the corresponding grape variety. Colline Teatine PGI Passito Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, is red to garnet red, varying in intensity; its fragrance is intense and characteristic of the grape variety; it is harmonious and velvety on the palate. Colline Teatine PGI Novello Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, is ruby red with faint purplish reflections; the nose is rich with fruity notes; it is fresh and velvety on the palate. Colline Teatine PGI Novello Rosato, alone or with specification of grape variety, can be various shades of pink; the nose is delicately fruity; it is fresh, harmonious, velvety and pleasantly aromatic on the palate.
Grape variety specifications
The Colline Teatine PGI, with specification of one of the grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the region, is reserved for wines obtained from grapes originating from vineyards on the producer’s land made up of at least 85% of the corresponding grape variety. A maximum of 15% of similarly-coloured unaromatic grapes originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area can be used, pure or combined, to produce the above-mentioned musts and wines. The Colline Teatine Protected Geographical Indication with specification of two grape varieties is reserved for wines obtained from grapes originating from vineyards on the producer’s land made up of the corresponding grape varieties, on the condition that the wine derives exclusively from the indicated grapes, and that the quantity of grapes produced by each of the two is higher than 15% of the total. The grape variety specifications must appear on the label in descending order with respect to the actual percentage of grapes obtained from them. The wines with specification of grape variety must display the organoleptic properties of the specified grape variety, as well as the specific characteristics indicated for wines of the same colour.
