The Colline Frentane PGI is reserved for the following types of wine: White, Red, Rosé (incl. Semi-Sparkling), White Passito, Red Passito, Red Novello and Rosé Novello. The Indication also incorporates numerous grape variety specifications.

The production area of Colline Frentane PGI is within the territory of numerous municipalities in the Province of Chieti, in the Abruzzo region.
Description of product typologies
Colline Frentane PGI Bianco, alone or with specification of grape variety, is straw-yellow, varying in depth; the nose offers various degrees of floral and fruity fragrances, depending on the grape varieties used; it is dry, sapid and fresh on the palate. It can also be a semi-sparkling wine. Colline Frentane PGI Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, is ruby red, varying in intensity; the nose is delicate, displaying characteristic fragrances of red fruit, traces of spices and aromatic herbs and an aromatic elegance deriving from the various grape varieties used; it is dry and sapid on the palate, at times with evident tannins, with good body. It can also be a semi-sparkling wine. Colline Frentane PGI Rosato, alone or with specification of grape variety, is pink, varying in intensity; it displays delicate fruity fragrances on the nose; it is dry, harmonious and fresh on the palate, with the characteristics of the grape varieties of origin. It can also be a semi-sparkling wine. Colline Frentane PGI Passito Bianco is yellow, tending towards amber with ageing; it displays intense, rich fruity notes on the nose; it is dry and sapid on the palate, with the characteristics of the grape varieties of origin. Colline Frentane PGI Passito Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, is red, varying in depth and tending towards garnet red; its fragrance is intense and characteristic of the grape varieties of origin; it is sweet, harmonious and velvety on the palate. Colline Frentane PGI Novello Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, is ruby red with faint purplish reflections; the nose is rich with fruity sensations; it is fresh and velvety on the palate. Colline Frentane PGI Novello Rosato, alone or with specification of grape variety, is pink, varying in intensity; it displays a delicate fragrance on the nose; it is harmonious, fresh and velvety on the palate.
Grape variety specifications
The Colline Frentane PGI with the specification of one of the grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Abruzzo region, is reserved for wines obtained from grapes originating from vineyards on the producer’s land made up of at least 85% of the corresponding grape variety. A maximum of 15% of similarly-coloured grapes originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area can be used, pure or combined, to produce the above-mentioned musts and wines. The Colline Frentane PGI with two grape variety specifications is reserved for wines obtained from grapes originating from vineyards on the producer’s land made up of the corresponding varieties, on the condition that the wine derives exclusively from grapes produced by the two specified varieties; the quantity of grapes produced by each of the two varieties must in any case be greater than 15% of the total and the grape variety specifications must appear on the label in descending order with respect to the actual percentage of grapes obtained from them. Colline Frentane PGI wines with specification of grape variety must display the organoleptic properties of the specified grape variety, as well as the specific characteristics indicated for wines of the same colour.
