The Collina del Milanese PGI is reserved for the following types of wine: White, Red, Rosé, Passito and Novello. The Indication also incorporates numerous grape variety specifications.
Production Area
The production area of Collina del Milanese PGI is within the municipality of San Colombano al Lambro in the Province of Milan; the municipalities of Graffignana, Sant’Angelo Lodigiano in the Province of Lodi; Inverno-Monteleone, Miradolo Terme in the Province of Pavia, in the Lombardy region.
Description of product typologies
Collina del Milanese PGI Bianco, alone or with specification of grape variety, is straw-yellow, varying in depth; it offers various degrees of floral and fruity fragrances on the nose, depending on the different grape varieties used; it is harmonious on the palate, at times mouth-filling, fresh and young, still or lively. It can also be a semi-sparkling wine. Collina del Milanese PGI Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, is ruby red, varying in intensity; the nose is delicate, displaying characteristic fragrances of red fruit, traces of spices and aromatic herbs and an aromatic elegance deriving from the various grape varieties used; the palate is dry or mouth-filling, sapid, fresh and young, still or lively. It can also be a semi-sparkling or Novello wine. Collina del Milanese PGI Rosato, alone or with specification of grape variety, is pink, varying in intensity; it displays delicate fruity fragrances on the nose; it is dry, harmonious and fresh on the palate, with the characteristics of the grape variety of origin. It can also be a semi-sparkling wine. Collina del Milanese PGI Passito, alone or with specification of grape variety, is golden yellow, varying in intensity, or slightly amber; it displays delicate and aromatic fragrances on the nose; it is sweet, harmonious and velvety on the palate.
Grape variety specifications
The Collina del Milanese PGI with the specification of one of the grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Lombardy region, is reserved for wines obtained from grapes originating from vineyards on the producer’s land made up of at least 85% of the corresponding grape varieties. A maximum of 15% of similarly-coloured unaromatic grapes originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area can be used, pure or combined, to produce the above-mentioned musts and wines. Collina del Milanese Protected Geographical Indication wines with the specification of one of the grape varieties may also be produced as a semi-sparkling wine. Collina del Milanese Passito Protected Geographical Indication wine must be obtained from grapes originating from one or more aromatic grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Lombardy region; if the Collina del Milanese PGI Passito wine is made up of at least 85% of the Verdea grape variety, reference to said grape variety may be displayed on the label. Collina del Milanese PGI wines with specification of grape variety must display the organoleptic properties of the specified grape variety, as well as the specific characteristics indicated for wines of the same colour.
