Description of product typologies
Colli di Salerno PGI Bianco, alone or with specification of grape variety, is straw-yellow, varying in intensity; it offers varying degrees of floral and fruity fragrances on the nose, based on the grape varieties used; it is dry and fresh on the palate, with a slightly fruity flavour and good persistence. It can also be a semi-sparkling or semi-sweet wine. Colli di Salerno PGI Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, is ruby red, varying in intensity; the nose is delicate and reveals characteristic fragrances of red fruit and hints of spices and aromatic herbs, with aromatic elegance deriving from the grape varieties used; it is dry and sapid on the palate, at times revealing evident tannins, and has good body. It can also be a semi-sparkling or semi-sweet wine. Colli di Salerno PGI Rosato, alone or with specification of grape variety, is pink, varying in intensity; the nose displays delicate fruity fragrances; it is dry, harmonious and fresh on the palate, with the characteristics of the grape varieties of origin. It can also be a semi-sparkling or semi-sweet wine. Colli di Salerno PGI Passito Bianco, alone or with specification of grape variety, ranges from straw-yellow to amber; the nose is rich with intense fruity and floral notes; it is sweet or semi-sweet on the palate. The colour of Colli di Salerno PGI Passito Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, is typical of the grape varieties of origin; its fragrance is intense, floral and fruity; it is sweet or semi-sweet on the palate.
Grape variety specifications
The Colli di Salerno PGI with specification of one of the grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Province of Salerno, is reserved for wines obtained from grapes originating from vineyards on the producer’s land made up of at least 85% of the corresponding grape variety. A maximum of 15% of similarly-coloured grapes originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area can be used, pure or combined, to produce the above-mentioned musts and wines. Colli di Salerno PGI wines with specification of grape variety must display the organoleptic properties of the specified grape variety, as well as the specific characteristics indicated for wines of the same colour.
