The production area of Rimini PDO is within the territory of numerous municipalities in the Province of Rimini, in the Emilia-Romagna region.
Description of product typologies
Rimini PDO Bianco is straw-yellow, varying in intensity; the nose offers a delicate fragrance, ranging from fruity to floral; it is dry, sapid and harmonious on the palate, ranging from dry to medium-sweet. Rimini PDO Rosso ranges from ruby red to garnet red; the nose is characteristic, at times with hints of red fruit and grassy, spicy or minerally notes; it ranges from dry to medium-sweet on the palate, at times tannic. It qualifies as a Riserva wine if it has undergone an ageing period of at least one year in wine vases. It can only be released for consumption 24 months after December 1st of the year in which the grapes were harvested.
Grape variety specifications
The Rimini PDO may display the following grape variety specifications. From white grape varieties: min. 85% Biancame, with the possible addition of other white grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 15%. Rebola (incl. Passito): min. 85% Grechetto Gentile, with the possible addition of other white grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 15%. From red grape varieties: min. 85% Cabernet Sauvignon (incl. Riserva), Sangiovese (incl. Superiore, Riserva), pure or with the addition of other black grape varieties, max. 15%. Rimini PDO Biancame is pale straw-yellow with greenish reflections; it is characteristic on the nose and sometimes displays floral notes; it is dry fresh and balanced on the palate, ranging from dry to medium-sweet. Rimini PDO Rebola varies from light straw-yellow to golden yellow; the nose is characteristic and delicately fruity; it is harmonious and dry on the palate, with characteristic smoothness and structure. Rimini PDO Rebola Passito varies from golden yellow to amber; it is characteristic, intense and fruity on the nose, at times with musty notes; it has a sweet, balanced and velvety flavour. Rimini PDO Rebola Passito is obtained from grapes that have been dried on the vines, on trellises, or in thermo-conditioned areas with forced ventilation and late harvesting after the grapes have dried on the vines. Rimini PDO Cabernet Sauvignon is ruby red, at times deep; the fragrance is characteristic, ethereal, at times spicy or grassy; it is harmonious on the palate, ranging from dry to medium-sweet, and is sometimes slightly tannic. Rimini PDO Sangiovese is ruby red, at times with purplish reflections; it is characteristic and minerally on the nose, at times floral; it is harmonious on the palate, ranging from dry to medium-sweet, and is sometimes slightly tannic. Rimini PDO Cabernet Sauvignon and Rimini PDO Sangiovese wines may display Riserva on the label if the wine has undergone an ageing period of at least one year in wine vases. They can only be released for consumption 24 months after December 1st of the year in which the grapes were harvested.
