Production Area
The production area of Colli di Faenza PDO is within the municipalities of Brisighella, Casola Valsenio, Riolo Terme and parts of Faenza and Castelbolognese, in the Province of Ravenna, and in the municipalities of Modigliana and Tredozio in the Province of Forlì-Cesena, in the Emilia-Romagna region.
Description of product typologies
Colli di Faenza PDO Bianco is bright straw-yellow in colour, varying in intensity; it is intense, delicate and fruity on the nose; on the plate it is dry, sapid and harmonious. Colli di Faenza PDO Rosso is intense ruby-red in colour; the nose displays ethereal and pleasantly grassy fragrances; it is dry on the palate, full-bodied and slightly tannic. It may display Riserva on the label if the wine has undergone an ageing period, also in wooden barrels, of at least 24 months, commencing November 1st of the year in which the grapes were produced.
Grape variety specifications
The Colli di Faenza PDO may display the following grape variety specifications. From white grape varieties: 100% Trebbiano or Pinot Bianco.From red grape varieties: 100% Sangiovese (including Riserva). Colli di Faenza PDO Trebbiano is straw-yellow in colour, varying in intensity; it offers fragrances of flowers and wild herbs on the nose; it is dry, fresh and harmonious on the palate.Colli di Faenza PDO Pinot Bianco wine has a straw-yellow colour, at times with greenish highlights; the nose offers elegant and delicately fruity fragrances; it is dry, harmonious and fresh on the palate.Colli di Faenza PDO Sangiovese is ruby-red in colour; it is characteristic and delicate on the nose, with fragrances reminiscent of pansies; it is dry and harmonious on the palate, with a characteristic aftertaste. It may display Riserva on the label.Vinification, maturing and ageing must be carried out in the territory of the municipalities within the entire, or part of the production area.
