The production area of Colli Aprutini PGI is within the territory of numerous municipalities in the Province of Teramo, in the Abruzzo region.
Description of product typologies
Colli Aprutini PGI Bianco, alone or with specification of one or two grape varieties, is straw-yellow; it offers intense and fruity fragrances on the nose, based on the various grape varieties used; it is dry and sapid on the palate, with good persistence. It can also be semi-sparkling wine. Colli Aprutini PGI Rosso is ruby red; the nose offers characteristic fragrances of red fruit and aromatic elegance deriving from the grape varieties used; it is dry and sapid on the palate, at times with evident tannins, and has good body. It can also be semi-sparkling wine. Colli Aprutini PGI Rosato is pink, varying in intensity; it displays fruity fragrances on the nose; it is dry and harmonious on the palate, with the characteristics of the grape variety of origin. It can also be semi-sparkling wine. Colli Aprutini PGI Passito Bianco is yellow, tending towards amber with ageing; it displays intense fruity fragrances on the nose; it is dry and sapid on the palate. Colli Aprutini PGI Passito Rosso is red, varying in intensity and tending towards garnet red; the nose is intense and characteristic; it is harmonious, sweet and velvety on the palate. Colli Aprutini PGI Novello is ruby red with faint purple reflections; it is pleasantly fruity on the nose; it is harmonious, fresh and velvety on the palate. Colli Aprutini PGI Novello Rosato is pink, varying in intensity; it is pleasantly fruity on the nose; it is harmonious, fresh and velvety on the palate.
Grape variety specifications
The Colli Aprutini PGI with the specification of one of the grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Abruzzo region, is reserved for wines obtained from grapes originating from vineyards on the producer’s land made up of at least 85% of the corresponding grape variety. A maximum of 15% of similarly-coloured grapes originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area can be used, pure or combined, to produce the above-mentioned musts and wines. The Colli Aprutini PGI with the specification of two grape varieties, is reserved for wines obtained from grapes originating from vineyards on the producer’s land made up of the corresponding varieties, on the condition that the wine derives exclusively from grapes produced by the two specified varieties; the quantity of grapes produced by each of the two varieties must in any case be greater than 15% of the total. The grape variety specifications must appear on the label in descending order with respect to the actual percentage of grapes obtained from them. Colli Aprutini PGI wines with specification of grape variety must display the organoleptic properties of the specified grape variety, as well as the specific characteristics indicated for wines of the same colour.
