The Civitella d’Agliano PGI is reserved for the following types of wine: White, Red, Rosé and Novello. The Indication also incorporates numerous grape variety specifications.
Production Area
The production area of Civitella d’Agliano PGI is within the entire territory of the municipality of Civitella d’Agliano in the Province of Viterbo, in the Lazio region.
Description of product typologies
Civitella d’Agliano PGI Bianco, alone or with specification of one or two grape varieties, is yellow, at times tending towards golden or greenish yellow; the nose offers various fruity sensations, depending on the grape variety that has been used; it is dry and fresh on the palate, with a slightly fruity flavour and good persistence. It can also be a semi-sparkling wine. Civitella d’Agliano PGI Rosso is ruby red, varying in intensity, tending towards garnet red with ageing; the nose is delicate, displaying characteristic fragrances of red fruit, traces of spices and aromatic herbs, and an aromatic elegance deriving from the various grape varieties used; it is dry and sapid on the palate, at times with evident tannins, and has good body. It can also be a semi-sparkling wine. Civitella d’Agliano PGI Rosato is cherry-pink, varying in intensity; it displays elegant and fruity fragrances on the nose; it is dry, harmonious and fresh on the palate, with the characteristics of the grape variety used. It can also be a semi-sparkling wine. Civitella d’Agliano PGI Novello is ruby red with purple reflections; the nose is complex and fruity; it is harmonious and typical on the palate.
Grape variety specifications
The Civitella d'Agliano PGI with the specification of one or more of the grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Lazio region, is reserved for wines obtained from grapes originating from vineyards on the producer’s land made up of at least 85% of the corresponding grape variety. A maximum of 15% of similarly-coloured grapes originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area can be used, pure or combined, to produce the above-mentioned musts and wines. The Civitella d’Agliano Protected Geographical Indication with specifications of two or three grape varieties, is reserved for wines obtained from grapes originating from vineyards on the producer’s land made up of the corresponding varieties, on the condition that the wine derives exclusively from grapes produced by the two specified varieties; the quantity of grapes produced by each of the two varieties must in any case be greater than 15% of the total. The grape variety specifications must appear on the label in descending order with respect to the actual percentage of grapes obtained from them. Civitella d’Agliano PGI wines with specification of grape variety must display the organoleptic properties of the specified grape variety, as well as the specific characteristics indicated for wines of the same colour.
